
Information Assistant & SDS Support Worker
About the Role
We are recruiting for a combined Information Assistant and Self-Directed Support (SDS) Support Worker to join our busy and friendly team in Bedford. This is a permanent part-time role at the heart of what we do — helping disabled people and their families navigate their rights, options and support.
What You'll Be Doing
You'll split your time between two key areas: providing information and advice at our drop-in service, and supporting individuals to manage their Direct Payments and Self-Directed Support packages.
Respond to enquiries from disabled people, carers and professionals in person, by phone and by email
Provide clear, accurate information on disability benefits, rights, local services and independent living options
Support individuals with Self-Directed Support, including helping to set up and manage Direct Payment accounts
Assist with payroll and financial monitoring for Direct Payment recipients
Maintain accurate case records and contribute to team reporting
Liaise with local authority partners and external agencies
What We're Looking For
Experience in an information, advice or support role — ideally within a disability, health or social care context
Knowledge of Direct Payments or Self-Directed Support (training provided for the right candidate)
Strong administrative and IT skills
Excellent listening and communication skills
Empathetic, non-judgemental and committed to empowering others
Role Details
Hours: 22.5 hours per week
Contract: Permanent
Location: Bedford (some hybrid working may be available)
